Ok, so it's extremely fluke-ish that there have been 3 perfect games in the past year, and that this year was the first in the history of modern baseball that there were two in one season. Guess the baseball gods weren't too happy about that, 'cause Armando Galarraga of the Tigers almost had yet another one last night. Two outs in the ninth, and the ump blows a call at first, breaking up the PG and crediting whoever the runner was with an infield single.
I mean, yeah, close plays happen, but what really sucks is that all the replays showed that the guy was out; since the ump called him safe, it was official and couldn't be undone. The ump even admits that he screwed up, with the heartbreaking headline of "I just cost that kid a perfect game."
Ah well. I have to go to orientation for the (Connecticut) Tigers, so I'll be back at some point. Just wanted to write about that.
