best christmas song ever!

i personally think it's stupid that radio stations are playing christmas music already, but i heard straight no chaser's version of the 12 days of christmas yesterday and it was hilarious. let's see if the video will upload....
rrgh, it's being stupid again. whatever. i trust that you can click here to watch it.

quick update

just a short one. the trip to maine was nixed, so we went mall-hopping instead. good stuff, good stuff. not to mention that we went to kohl's (big deal), but the cool part was that when we got there, 'time of my life' by david cook was on the radio and when we left an hour-ish later, 'light on' was on the same station so we had david cook song overload and it was GREAT!

as for baseball-related crap, the rangers traded a pitcher to the sox for 'player(s) to be named or cash' (as long as ellsbury stays here, i'm happy), and the sox hired one of the rays' coaches to be our 1B coach since alicea got the boot.

happy whateverness

one last post before i leave for maine. hope everyone has a nice few days off. don't pig out too much. and if i don't hear adam sandler's turkey song (look it up, it's classic), i'm gonna be mad.

and while you're at it, you might as well check out these awesome songs (even though they're mostly repeats):
  • "light on" by david cook
  • "rock and roll" by eric hutchinson
  • "gives you hell" by the all-american rejects
  • "angels on the moon" by thriving ivory
  • "roll on" by kid rock
  • "human" by the killers
  • "lovers in japan" by coldplay (good song, bad music video to watch when you have a sick stomach)
don't miss me too much while i'm gone! :D

stuffs

as a supplement to yesterday's post (how ellie routed her readers here and how i'm not going to be home for thanksgiving either), i guess it's only fair to route the 3 people who read this daily to the amateur geek if i haven't already. it's all about smart stuff and if you can actually understand half of what my friend david talks about, i'll give you a cookie! (and for the record, i'm only sending you peeps over there 'cause he'll be here this week and i'll get my butt kicked if i don't send you over there. psssht, like i'd actually get my butt kicked.)

awww, i feel special

because of thanksgiving travelyness, ellie posted here for her readers to come hither for baseball-related entertainment over the long weekend, so yay for me for getting a referral. 'course, it doesn't help anyone that i'm going to maine on wednesday, but hey, the intent was there!

so, for some non-baseball-related entertainment (nothing much has happened lately), here's an awesome joke from the comedy central joke of the day gadget:

At a southern university, students in the psychology program were attending their first class on emotional extremes.
"Just to establish some parameters," said the professor to the student from Arkansas, "what is the opposite of joy?"
"Sadness," said the student.
"And the opposite of depression?" he asked of the young lady from Oklahoma.
"Elation," she said.
"And you sir," he said to the young man from Texas, "what about the opposite of woe?"
The Texan replied, "Sir, I believe that would be 'giddy up' ."

holy christmas!

last night was probably the worst night of the week to have to sit and play at a football game (play as in marching band, not football). it was probably negative-bajillion out, no one's instrument worked, we had to play the whole game instead of only the first half and i was wearing 3 of everything AND I WAS STILL COLD. i'm just glad that we didn't have to go into overtime (i told my stepdad that i'd be mad if we went into extra innings and then i realized 'wait, no, that's not right.').

woo working on my thesis paper. fun. i hate writing essays, even if this one is baseball-related.

few things

for starters, happy awesomeness to pedroia, who not only got the gold glove, silver slugger and was the starting 2B in the all-star game, he's now AL MVP. this guy is awesome and i think that he is underrated for all of the stuff he's done for the team. so yay pedroia!

and for more shocking news, the red sox traded crisp. to the royals. i am dead serious. to be quite honest, i burst out laughing when i read that they did swapsies with crisp and reliever ramon ramirez, but i can see this as good because that'll give ellsbury even more startingness, and it'll give the royals some of the sox's awesomeness (even though they have a bajillion outfielders already...)
of course, it would've been hilarious if the sox got alex in the deal (i can hear the angels singing now), or if the red sox traded ellsbury for alex. psssht, like that'd ever happen.

let's go red sox!
and pedroia!
(and welcome, ramon)
and royals!
(and hey again, coco.)

*whimper*

k, i know i haven't been to school for the past 3 tuesdays now, but those other two times were because of election day and veterans day so we got the day off. i had to call in sick this morning 'cause i've been to school with a sick stomach before and there are memories that i'd prefer not to relive.

anyway, i was watching vh1, as i always do on days off, and in the music video for "gives you hell" by the all-american rejects, i noticed that frontman tyson ritter looks stupid with a comb-over. (although i don't think there are any rockstars that have comb-overs, let alone any that would look good.) and i have "rock and roll" by eric hutchinson stuck in my head (at least it's a good song)

oh, and you HAVE to check this out! incredible (and i mean that in a good way)

and finally, a big happy birthday to big papi. let's go red sox!

how can you hate this?

(i think the person i'm addressing knows who i'm addressing)

i mean, yes, this is kinda a goofy picture, but seriously! how can you not love that dorky smile? you just kinda want to give him a big hug.

(oh, and happy birthday to ryan braun, a.k.a. mr 8-pack)

stuff

just a short update. i finished another grid pic (this one was actually part of an assignment for drawing class), so i scanned it into the computer. my sketchbook didn't fit in my scanner, so i had to beam it onto the computer in two parts, which would explain the crease in the middle.

(yeah, i know dan haren only has one eye but that's 'cause you can't really see the other one in the original. and sorry that it's really light, it looks much better in real life.)

(that's what it's s'posed to look like)

hope you like it! :)

(oh, and david, you need to check your email if you haven't already! :D)

let's not do that again

(as in the whole really long post thing. i don't have a problem with a non-baseball post as long as i have something interesting to write about)

so. yeah. huzzah for lincecum and cliff lee on their awesome pitcherness ("if i can draw your attention to my wednesday post..." since it was so RUDELY interrupted by the really long post :D)
and also huzzah to mauer, sizemore, pedroia and wright for both their awesome defensiveness and hittingness. (not that either of those are words. but now they are.)
and also also happy birthdays to schilling and nady (i betcha ellie will have a birthday pictures post for her boy 'x-man' so check out her blog :D)

and now that baseball season is REALLY over, i'm stuck on what to post about, so if i go a few days without anything, don't freak out (you know, the 3 other people who read this regularly).

and now for something completely different

and no, this post has nothing to do with monty python. sorry.
anyway, david/the EGE (same person, duh) was getting all pissy 'cause all i talk about is baseball (uh, hello?! divided loyalty!!!! it's s'posed to be about baseball!), so to please the royal pain, i promised i'd do a non-baseball related post.
but before i do that, i'll just give you the link to this, SO READ IT!!!! (once again, was anyone surprised?)

so, here goes. sorry for the hellaciously long post, i had to fit them all on here (a lot of them were on my sidebar, but the royal pain insisted that i take them off). i have more, but since this post isn't s'posed to have things related to a certain 8-letter word that begins with 'B', i didn't include them.

random quotes:

  • "Anything is possible... except perhaps skiing through a revolving door." (alex milan)
  • "The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off." (alex milan)

yikes. that was a lot. (there, señor wussypants, ya happy? and because it's a hellaciously long post, no one will want to read it. thanks a lot. >:P)

*more obnoxious screaming!*

this time i have an excuse 'cause it's entirely obvious that lincecum won the NL cy young. was anyone surprised? i wasn't. in fact, i would've been very mad if webb had won it, but that's just a personal thing.
and not only did lincecum get the awesome pitcherness award, he is planned to grace the cover of MLB 2K9. i might just have to go out and ask for a wii for my birthday just to get that game 'cause it won't be on DS (bummer). although the wii is awesome in general, so the game wouldn't be the only reason (it'd just be more incentive :D).

and you have to check out his interview. i don't know about you, but he looks like a highschooler in his interview (and he acts like one too, but i'm allowed to say that because i am one). you just kinda want to give him a big hug for being so adorable. *insert heart here* :D
and here's another good article from july in sports illustrated. it kinda cracks me up to think that someone who's at least 6 inches taller than me is considered 'tiny', but baseball has different standards, especially when it comes to people who can throw 97-mph fastballs, so...
and finally, here's the yahoo! sports photo gallery of his interview (my goodness, does he ever stop smiling?!)

one last attempt

k, just reiterating that the NL cy young award is going to be handed out tomorrow, so as a last 'good luck', i'll post this again

woo! tim lincecum for the NL cy young 2008!
*loud obnoxious screaming!*
:D

sweet!

remember the whole varitek saga and how the sox were rumored to have been talking with the rangers about teagarden and saltalamacchia? apparently salty wouldn't mind playing for the sox, saying that "it would be a dream come true", as says here. not to mention that it'd be a heck of a lot easier for me to get a t-shirt graced with that fantabulous 14-letter name, but that's a bonus.

on another happy note, longoria got rookie of the year, so yay for that, too.
(crap! ellsbury only got 26 points! oh well. 3rd is still pretty good.)

a shoutout to the baseball writers' association of america for doing a good job with picking out an awesome AL R.O.Y. and also to kinda get the lead out for the cy youngs. unless brandon webb wins, in which case i don't want to know :D

so... let's go evan! and lincecum!
(4:27PM EDIT: omg omg omg omg!!!! NL cy youngs are tomorrow can't wait that long!!!!!!! AL cy youngs and the other crap is next... but who cares! i really want it to be tomorrow!!!!)

...

i got bored this morning (well, right around lunchtime) and found another "i love this town" baseball spoof. this is kinda like the one ellie found a few weeks back, but this is with some of the actual players. great stuff right there, let me tell you.

more proof that i'm a nut

we were talking about the spanish-american war in us history, and they were talking about this spanish general weyler dude and my teacher had us guess as to what the newspapers nicknamed him and because he was in mexico and the caribbean (cuba), the first thing that came to my head for whatever reason was 'the mexicutioner', which is already taken by kc's closer, joakim soria. what made me think that, we'll never know, but hey, you already know that i mostly think in terms of baseball and little kid movies.

(and i love that clip because it's from the august 4th game with both alex's homerun and the collision. the soria part comes towards the end. right before the collision. :D)

woo

yay pedroia got the gold glove! woo! and huzzah also for mauer and grady (AL gold glove list). and david wright, too (NL gold glove list).
i want to know when the cy youngs are handed out! cliff lee is practically unanimous, and i'm on the 'vote for timmy' boat :D.

let's go gold glove guys! and lincecum! :D

ooh! again

more free agent crap.
apparently there's a little bit of discussion about the sox sticking with varitek. sure, he didn't do so hot last season, but he's their best catcher and he's awesome anyway (and if he got traded, i'm sure my mom wouldn't be very happy 'cause he's her favorite). interestingly enough, posada is also a free agent, so it would be weird if the yankees and sox did catcher swapsies because that would totally screw up the sox/yankees hatred.

there was also a rumor here that the sox were also considering talking with the rangers on swapping one of our pitching prospects (like buchholz or some other dude) for one of their younger catchers, which includes saltalamacchia (as if we don't have enough catchers to begin with. but cash and ross are free agents, so...).
and there's another opportunity to consolidate my divided loyalty (just in case i didn't clarify, salty was the newest addition to my buddies list 'cause he is awesome and i love saying his last name :D)

my opinion: stick with varitek, trade out for salty!

(i love how barely anyone can pronounce that :D)

(info courtesy of that linked article, picture courtesy of a magazine i have)

(EDIT: and it's official now that timlin is a free agent. that makes 9 free agent sockies.)

in other news...

(sorry 'bout that slightly depressing post, i got it all sorted out and it's all good)

anyway, today's election day, blah blah blah, who cares.
FREE AGENCY!
here's the list of red sox free agents:
  • C Jason Varitek
  • 1B Sean Casey
  • SS Alex Cora
  • OF Mark Kotsay
  • RHP Paul Byrd
  • RHP Curt Schilling
  • C David Ross
  • RHP Bartolo Colon
  • possibly RHP Mike Timlin (he's the only eligible person left but hasn't made a decision)
  • (arbitration-eligible includes 1B Kevin Youkilis, RHP Jonathan Papelbon, C Kevin Cash, LHP Javier Lopez)
and for the royals:
  • 2B Mark Grudzielanek
  • (arbitration-eligible includes RHP Zack Greinke, LHP Jimmy Gobble, RHP Luke Hudson, OF Joey Gathright, C John Buck, OF/3B Mark Teahen, INF Jason Smith, RHP Brandon Duckworth, RHP Joel Peralta, RHP Brian Bannister, RHP Kyle Davies, INF/OF Esteban German, LHP John Bale (aka mr. door puncher :) )
catcher miguel olivo was a free agent, but the royals just signed him back on with a $2.7 million contract for 2009, and a 2010 option is up for discussion. he is expected to be their starting catcher for next year.
also in royals news (gosh, i sound like a news anchor), 1B mike jacobs was acquired from the marlins in return for LHP leo nuñez on jacobs' 28th birthday.

summary: none of my boys are free agents! i should be safe.

(thanks to yahoo! sports and mlb.com for the info. hence why there's a lot of capitalization.)

the soapbox

(yet another igoogle repeat-age)
my stomach hurts, i feel like crap and there's a good possibility that i'm on the verge of losing my best friend.

i want to go back to bed.

the day after *dun dun DUNNN!*

halloween sugar crash in process...

anyway, i decided to be alex for halloween (it's not like i had to buy anything special, i already had the jersey, hat, softball pants/socks...), and i stayed home to hand out candy while my family took my little sister trick-or-treating across the street. we got 4 people. 3 were in one family. i got weird looks from everyone (it must've been the eyeshadow/5 o'clock shadow smudged all over my chin), and the dad from the 3-kid family thought i was george brett! i guess i can't be too mad, seeing as he at least knew someone from the royals who happened to be a 3rd baseman and technically alex is s'posed to be brett's 2nd coming, but still! the name was on the back of my shirt! oh well.

here's a funny video my friend becky sent me a few days ago. (it won't let me upload it. whatever.)
and here's another random picture from the boston dirt dogs feed
