what. the. heck.

i think we need to do some more swappage with the royals. not because they have people we want (aside from the obvious :D), but because i just realized we have a buttload of pitchers, which is what they so very badly need. let's see, our offseason arrivals: junichi tazawa (pitcher from japan), billy traber (minor league pitcher from the yankees), ramon ramirez (pitcher from the royals), miguel gonzalez (pitcher from rule 5 draft), and now brad penny (pitcher from the dodgers). the only non-pitcher we got so far is padres catcher josh bard.

so yeah, it'd be kinda dumb to give the royals back the reliever they gave us, but they seriously need a bullpen. and you know i want alex here, aside from the fact that it would cause a major CF (and i do not mean center field) 'cause we already have lowell (and youk and casey in a pinch). and i'm glad that we temporarily fixed our catching dilemma but once again, you know that i want salty here.

for other randomness:

now, about christmas....

since i lied and didn't post on friday and saturday's post obviously wasn't about christmas presents (although i'm sure the giants were happy)

anyway, i've spent the past few days trying to get all of my music from my computer and creative zen micro (it's like an iPod only not) onto my new iPod (the 4th generation nano, it's blue), and call me blasphemous but i kinda like my creative just a little bit better. it's easier to operate (well, i've had it since... 2005ish), the play mode is a lot easier to access, and it has radio and a little recording thing. i like that my iPod plays video (too bad i couldn't upload the straight no chaser video), and they're a lot easier to buy accessories for.

oh well. they're both awesome :)

and i can't wait for next monday 'cause i get to wear my new black and red plaid converses and my lincecum shirt (i finally found the right size and it fits great width-wise but it's so long that i could wear short shorts underneath and no one would see them. not that i would do that, but i'm just saying.)

hot stove news

randy johnson just agreed to a 1-year deal with the giants, which is cool 'cause #1: he's really good and even though he's... let's say 'experienced' ('cause he is), he can help the giants so they don't end up in almost last in the NL west again, and #2: he gets to play with lincecum and it would really suck for the opposing team if they were next to each other in the rotation.
(and i know, ellie, the whole 'playing with so-and-so' thing...)

in sox news, we still need a catcher! we need a catcher, not a... uh... body... snatcher...? (hey, that's what rhymezone.com came up with)

i'm pooped. 4 houses. 3 christmases. too tired to do a real post. more tomorrow, folks.

GAH! i hate the yankees

well, that goes without saying.

train of events: they see sabathia, they take him. they see burnett, they take him. they see teixeira, they're all like "oh, no, we're not gonna take him", they take him anyway. and now they took our backup catcher. i hope they pull a 'kansas city' 'cause both the chiefs and the royals kinda stink 'cause of the shuttlecock curse, so now the yankees are gonna suck 'cause one of their contractors almost succeeded in hiding a big papi jersey in the foundation (and the awesomeness of the #34 is still there :D) and they're gonna be all disfunctional and i'm gonna laugh.
(and we really need to start that 'i want salty' chant now that we're down to 1 catcher!)

on a lighter note, i probably won't post tomorrow (i mean, i'll be at 4 houses tomorrow), so happy christmahanukwanzaa to everyone!

jknpoinwe kmfosnet!

since 'woo' is already a title.

woo #1: YAY NO MORE SCHOOL until the 5th. finally i get to sleep in!

woo #2: i got a 90 on my thesis paper so yay me (i know, just barely squeaking in with an A-, but i was ecstatic that i got an A 'cause last year's english paper got me an 84). and stop complaining david that you got a 92 'cause you can't always get a 98 (what he got last year) and you got higher than me so shut up.

woo #3: i got an awesome alex-themed picture frame from mr. i'm-mad-i-"only"-got-a-92. that's the 'minor awesomeness' part. the 'major awesomeness' part hasn't come in yet and with all luck, it's somewhere between here and nebraska. (take a wild guess. and it sorta has to do with said frame.)

(isn't it beautious? :D)

3:56pm- and all those woos got counteracted by THIS
my woo post is ruined now. and i'm siding with ellie on that this is the worst offseason ever. i hope cc, burnett and teixeira all suck next season and that a-rod breaks his face.

Monday, December 22, 2008

1 more day!

i think i can handle it. only 1 more day of school, and we have shortened classes 'cause of the in-school concert. only drawback is that we get our thesis papers back and i'm REALLY scared! it's like the one thing that could ruin my break, getting a crappy grade on this, and it ends up being 8% of our final grade (which isn't much BUT STILL!!!!)
david, that cookie bet is still on. and it is fair because it's expected that you'll get a better grade than me so you don't get a cookie for that, but if i magically get a higher grade, that's awesome and i deserve a cookie. and if we get the same grade (psssht, like that would ever happen), i'll give you a half of a cookie. but i get the other half.

darn. it.

mini-christmas #1 is cancelled. |:(
oh well, it's not that great out and i'll still get the presents at a later date but i like having it spread out! and the food that i'm missing out on!

whatever. let's hope the sox sign teixeira. and salty. and if the yankees get anyone else that isn't already theirs, i'm gonna be mad.

Saturday, December 20, 2008

omg this is so weird!

(and no i'm not talking about how embarrassing my mom sounded on the radio when she won $210 of free groceries yesterday. although that was weird. good thing i was paying attention.)

anyway, i was on wikipedia yesterday and looked at today's birthdays 'cause i was bored, and i found out that it is:

david dejesus' 29th birthday (go royals),

david cook's 26th birthday (go david cook),

and david wright's 26th birthday (go mets).

what is it, like 'national awesome david birthday day?' (sorry sindel, guess you missed out :D)

...where's the snow...? it's s'posed to be blizzarding right now! but hey, a snowday with no snow? i'm game. :)

(2:45pm- k, forget i said that :D)

Thursday, December 18, 2008

i'm not sure whether to want a snow day tomorrow or not. if we do, then yay no school but then we'll have to make it up, so i'm all over the early dismissal plan. and it's supposed to be crappy on sunday which i don't want 'cause that'll screw up mini christmas #1 and i'm all about the presents. and food :)

yay it's on the radio again :)
so here's some random lyrics for you to enjoy

Never really said too much
Afraid it wouldn’t be enough
Just try to keep my spirits up
When there’s no point in grieving
Doesn’t matter anyway
Words could never make me stay
Words will never take my place
When you know I’m leaving

Try to leave a light on when I’m gone
Something I rely on to get home
One I can feel at night
A naked light, a fire to keep me warm
Try to leave a light on when I’m gone
Even in the daylight, shine on
And when it’s late at night you can look inside
You won’t feel so alone

You know we’ve been down that road
What seems a thousand times before
My back to a closing door and my eyes to the seasons
That roll out underneath my heels
And you don’t know how bad it feels
To leave the only one that I have ever believed in

Try to leave a light on when I’m gone
Something I rely on to get home
One I can feel at night
A naked light, a fire to keep me warm
Try to leave a light on when I’m gone
Even in the daylight, shine on
And when it’s late at night you can look inside
You won’t feel so alone

Sometimes it feels like we’ve run out of luck
When the signal keeps on breaking up
When the wires cross in my brain
You’ll start my heart again
When I come along

Try to leave a light on when I’m gone
Something I rely on to get home
One I can feel at night
A naked light, a fire to keep me warm
Try to leave a light on when I’m gone
Even in the daylight, shine on
And when it’s late at night you can look inside
You won’t feel so alone

(and notice how it's in blue for the royals 'cause he sang at one of their games and they won and alex hit a homerun :D)

... yeah...

nothing much since the anti-yankees rant. speaking of which, i was bored yesterday and found this really funny bumper sticker on facebook:

(well, it's TRUE! :D)

i kinda want it to snow. not on tuesday, 'cause i need to hand out cookies (and that apology note to dan/tori...). monday would be nice, 'cause mondays suck anyway and i have a chem test, a us history project and i have to play my scale in band (no biggie, but that's just to emphasize the suckage of this coming monday).

and i can't wait til sunday (mini-christmas #1 with mike's family) and wednesday (christmas eve, probably sleeping over at my dad's house) and thursday (mini-christmas #2-4, dad and my stepmom rachel, mom's family, then finally back home)

and happy birthday to duff goldman, the awesome chef from ace of cakes

omg i heart david cook! :D ("light on" came on the radio)
my favorite part (aside from the whole thing): "and you don't know how bad it feels to leave the only one that i have ever believed in"

*another pouty face!*

this time that darn team signed aj burnett. WOULD YOU PEOPLE PLEASE STOP SIGNING EVERYONE?!?! just because you have more moolah than everyone else doesn't mean you have to be all like 'haha we have more money than you do so we can buy everyone else out!' and people wonder why i'm a red sox fan.

aside from that, i went to my friend eric's christmas party and it was EPIC!!!! my sides still hurt from laughing so hard.

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

*pouty face*

the *gag!* yankees signed cc sabathia (and just so you know, there aren't any dots between the c's 'cause i read an article on sabathia in ESPN mag and he said that there's no dots). crap. let's hope he has a crappy season, or at least bombs in the red sox (and maybe royals) games.

no other interesting news, otherwise. the offseason is really boring.

Tuesday, December 9, 2008

the mets signed k-rod, $37million, 3 years. that's cool.

and no word yet on what varitek is doing, but he isn't going to the mets for schneider. i deem it necessary now to start banging fists on the table and start a 'trade for salty' chant. DO IT! DO IT NOW! :)

oh, and you'll appreciate this, ellie: i was on chat with david earlier this afternoon and he said he was talking to mike jacobs and i was like 'mike jacobs as in the royals first baseman mike jacobs?!?!' and i got all excited but it wasn't him, it was some dude at our school.
and i also read the headline that one of the royals' former managers got inducted into the hall of fame and because the dude's last name was gordon (no relation to alex), i kept thinking it was alex 'cause i kept putting 'royals' and 'gordon' together. whoops, wrong one :D.

Monday, December 8, 2008

oh well. we lost the championship, 16-14. i'm not that concerned (i mean, it's not like we were like that other school in the 43-0 game), and at least we made it to states. and for new management, i thought that the team did really good.

apparently the mets are considering swapping their catcher brian schneider (aka mr. boo-boo thumb) for some pitcherage. that'd be cool. i'm still all over the pitcher-for-salty deal, but the rangers shipped laird to detroit, so there's a smaller chance of us getting salty. i just hope we can keep varitek 'cause he declined arbitration (so did byrd).

Friday, December 5, 2008

and that is a real woo because i don't have to worry about my thesis paper! (until it comes back and then is the time to panic)

the state championship is tomorrow, so good luck to our football team and kick some... other team... butt! go colonels!

and on the varitek saga, epstein seems to think that it'd be a good idea to keep varitek and also trade out for a catcher, probably giving the rangers a AAA pitcher for salty. once again, i'm game for this trade. varitek is awesome and he's kinda like the team dad, being the captain and all, and i'd like to see him come back, and if the rangers trade goes through, varitek can help salty out 'cause he has a lot of potential.

Thursday, December 4, 2008

woo. sortof. not really.

that woo is about 1/3 real and 2/3 sarcastic.
the actual 'woo' is because we (as in the school football team which i'm not really part of but it's our school, so...) made it to the state finals which is this weekend. we beat... some school not in our county 43-0. it was a nice quick game and not nearly as cold as the last game.
the sarcastic part of the 'woo' is because i have my black sox scandal thesis report due tomorrow AND i have a chemistry test tomorrow and i'm really nervous 'cause i don't want to get bad grades on either (well, duh). wish me luck! (i'll need it)

and the sox gave pedroia a 6-year, $40.5 million extension with an $11 million option for year 7. not including the option, that's almost $7 million a year. that is an insane amount of money. and the deal with tazawa is officially official. (...and i just totally repeated myself...)

and gruddy is almost 100% sure that he's not resigning with the royals, so i can see some infield musical chairs going on this offseason, since he was their main 2B before he screwed up his ankle. i wouldn't mind seeing aviles take over, but he's probably gonna stay at SS.

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

2 things.
  1. just when i thought football season was over, nope, we made it to the state semi-finals. what does this have to do with me? marching band has to play tonight. good thing is that we don't have to wear those tacky uniforms and freeze our butts off (instead we get to wear civilian clothes and freeze our butts off!)
  2. the royals gave gruddy arbitration, but there's a very high chance that he's gonna look elsewhere. “I’m going to be a little spoiled,” he said, “and try to go to somebody with a better (chance) to reach the World Series.” ('cause no offense or anything, but the royals haven't been doing so hot lately. must be that shuttlecock curse.)
that's it. i'm gonna go eat dinner now. and work on homework. but mostly eat pizza.

Monday, December 1, 2008

ew, it's december already. i mean, yay 'cause winter break is in... 22 days, but still! december = cold = ew!
although, one more month and it's been a year since you people have had to put up with my nonsense! now don't you feel special.

so. the red sox signed tazawa. that's cool. and the royals have to decide what to do with gruddy (grudzielanek) by tonight. i feel kinda bad 'cause he's one of their better players but had a lot of ankle problems; it seemed like once it was healed, he twisted it again. and twisting ankles is not fun.

best christmas song ever!

i personally think it's stupid that radio stations are playing christmas music already, but i heard straight no chaser's version of the 12 days of christmas yesterday and it was hilarious. let's see if the video will upload....
rrgh, it's being stupid again. whatever. i trust that you can click here to watch it.

quick update

just a short one. the trip to maine was nixed, so we went mall-hopping instead. good stuff, good stuff. not to mention that we went to kohl's (big deal), but the cool part was that when we got there, 'time of my life' by david cook was on the radio and when we left an hour-ish later, 'light on' was on the same station so we had david cook song overload and it was GREAT!

as for baseball-related crap, the rangers traded a pitcher to the sox for 'player(s) to be named or cash' (as long as ellsbury stays here, i'm happy), and the sox hired one of the rays' coaches to be our 1B coach since alicea got the boot.

Wednesday, November 26, 2008

happy whateverness

one last post before i leave for maine. hope everyone has a nice few days off. don't pig out too much. and if i don't hear adam sandler's turkey song (look it up, it's classic), i'm gonna be mad.

and while you're at it, you might as well check out these awesome songs (even though they're mostly repeats):
  • "light on" by david cook
  • "rock and roll" by eric hutchinson
  • "gives you hell" by the all-american rejects
  • "angels on the moon" by thriving ivory
  • "roll on" by kid rock
  • "human" by the killers
  • "lovers in japan" by coldplay (good song, bad music video to watch when you have a sick stomach)
don't miss me too much while i'm gone! :D

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

as a supplement to yesterday's post (how ellie routed her readers here and how i'm not going to be home for thanksgiving either), i guess it's only fair to route the 3 people who read this daily to the amateur geek if i haven't already. it's all about smart stuff and if you can actually understand half of what my friend david talks about, i'll give you a cookie! (and for the record, i'm only sending you peeps over there 'cause he'll be here this week and i'll get my butt kicked if i don't send you over there. psssht, like i'd actually get my butt kicked.)

Monday, November 24, 2008

awww, i feel special

because of thanksgiving travelyness, ellie posted here for her readers to come hither for baseball-related entertainment over the long weekend, so yay for me for getting a referral. 'course, it doesn't help anyone that i'm going to maine on wednesday, but hey, the intent was there!

so, for some non-baseball-related entertainment (nothing much has happened lately), here's an awesome joke from the comedy central joke of the day gadget:

At a southern university, students in the psychology program were attending their first class on emotional extremes.
"Just to establish some parameters," said the professor to the student from Arkansas, "what is the opposite of joy?"
"Sadness," said the student.
"And the opposite of depression?" he asked of the young lady from Oklahoma.
"Elation," she said.
"And you sir," he said to the young man from Texas, "what about the opposite of woe?"
The Texan replied, "Sir, I believe that would be 'giddy up' ."

Friday, November 21, 2008

holy christmas!

last night was probably the worst night of the week to have to sit and play at a football game (play as in marching band, not football). it was probably negative-bajillion out, no one's instrument worked, we had to play the whole game instead of only the first half and i was wearing 3 of everything AND I WAS STILL COLD. i'm just glad that we didn't have to go into overtime (i told my stepdad that i'd be mad if we went into extra innings and then i realized 'wait, no, that's not right.').

woo working on my thesis paper. fun. i hate writing essays, even if this one is baseball-related.

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

few things

for starters, happy awesomeness to pedroia, who not only got the gold glove, silver slugger and was the starting 2B in the all-star game, he's now AL MVP. this guy is awesome and i think that he is underrated for all of the stuff he's done for the team. so yay pedroia!

and for more shocking news, the red sox traded crisp. to the royals. i am dead serious. to be quite honest, i burst out laughing when i read that they did swapsies with crisp and reliever ramon ramirez, but i can see this as good because that'll give ellsbury even more startingness, and it'll give the royals some of the sox's awesomeness (even though they have a bajillion outfielders already...)
of course, it would've been hilarious if the sox got alex in the deal (i can hear the angels singing now), or if the red sox traded ellsbury for alex. psssht, like that'd ever happen.

let's go red sox!
and pedroia!
(and welcome, ramon)
and royals!
(and hey again, coco.)

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

k, i know i haven't been to school for the past 3 tuesdays now, but those other two times were because of election day and veterans day so we got the day off. i had to call in sick this morning 'cause i've been to school with a sick stomach before and there are memories that i'd prefer not to relive.

anyway, i was watching vh1, as i always do on days off, and in the music video for "gives you hell" by the all-american rejects, i noticed that frontman tyson ritter looks stupid with a comb-over. (although i don't think there are any rockstars that have comb-overs, let alone any that would look good.) and i have "rock and roll" by eric hutchinson stuck in my head (at least it's a good song)

oh, and you HAVE to check this out! incredible (and i mean that in a good way)

and finally, a big happy birthday to big papi. let's go red sox!

Monday, November 17, 2008

how can you hate this?

(i think the person i'm addressing knows who i'm addressing)

i mean, yes, this is kinda a goofy picture, but seriously! how can you not love that dorky smile? you just kinda want to give him a big hug.

(oh, and happy birthday to ryan braun, a.k.a. mr 8-pack)

Saturday, November 15, 2008

just a short update. i finished another grid pic (this one was actually part of an assignment for drawing class), so i scanned it into the computer. my sketchbook didn't fit in my scanner, so i had to beam it onto the computer in two parts, which would explain the crease in the middle.

(yeah, i know dan haren only has one eye but that's 'cause you can't really see the other one in the original. and sorry that it's really light, it looks much better in real life.)

(that's what it's s'posed to look like)

hope you like it! :)

(oh, and david, you need to check your email if you haven't already! :D)

Friday, November 14, 2008

let's not do that again

(as in the whole really long post thing. i don't have a problem with a non-baseball post as long as i have something interesting to write about)

so. yeah. huzzah for lincecum and cliff lee on their awesome pitcherness ("if i can draw your attention to my wednesday post..." since it was so RUDELY interrupted by the really long post :D)
and also huzzah to mauer, sizemore, pedroia and wright for both their awesome defensiveness and hittingness. (not that either of those are words. but now they are.)
and also also happy birthdays to schilling and nady (i betcha ellie will have a birthday pictures post for her boy 'x-man' so check out her blog :D)

and now that baseball season is REALLY over, i'm stuck on what to post about, so if i go a few days without anything, don't freak out (you know, the 3 other people who read this regularly).

Thursday, November 13, 2008

and now for something completely different

and no, this post has nothing to do with monty python. sorry.
anyway, david/the EGE (same person, duh) was getting all pissy 'cause all i talk about is baseball (uh, hello?! divided loyalty!!!! it's s'posed to be about baseball!), so to please the royal pain, i promised i'd do a non-baseball related post.
but before i do that, i'll just give you the link to this, SO READ IT!!!! (once again, was anyone surprised?)

so, here goes. sorry for the hellaciously long post, i had to fit them all on here (a lot of them were on my sidebar, but the royal pain insisted that i take them off). i have more, but since this post isn't s'posed to have things related to a certain 8-letter word that begins with 'B', i didn't include them.

yikes. that was a lot. (there, señor wussypants, ya happy? and because it's a hellaciously long post, no one will want to read it. thanks a lot. >:P)

*more obnoxious screaming!*

this time i have an excuse 'cause it's entirely obvious that lincecum won the NL cy young. was anyone surprised? i wasn't. in fact, i would've been very mad if webb had won it, but that's just a personal thing.
and not only did lincecum get the awesome pitcherness award, he is planned to grace the cover of MLB 2K9. i might just have to go out and ask for a wii for my birthday just to get that game 'cause it won't be on DS (bummer). although the wii is awesome in general, so the game wouldn't be the only reason (it'd just be more incentive :D).

and you have to check out his interview. i don't know about you, but he looks like a highschooler in his interview (and he acts like one too, but i'm allowed to say that because i am one). you just kinda want to give him a big hug for being so adorable. *insert heart here* :D
and here's another good article from july in sports illustrated. it kinda cracks me up to think that someone who's at least 6 inches taller than me is considered 'tiny', but baseball has different standards, especially when it comes to people who can throw 97-mph fastballs, so...
and finally, here's the yahoo! sports photo gallery of his interview (my goodness, does he ever stop smiling?!)

Monday, November 10, 2008

one last attempt

k, just reiterating that the NL cy young award is going to be handed out tomorrow, so as a last 'good luck', i'll post this again

woo! tim lincecum for the NL cy young 2008!
*loud obnoxious screaming!*

remember the whole varitek saga and how the sox were rumored to have been talking with the rangers about teagarden and saltalamacchia? apparently salty wouldn't mind playing for the sox, saying that "it would be a dream come true", as says here. not to mention that it'd be a heck of a lot easier for me to get a t-shirt graced with that fantabulous 14-letter name, but that's a bonus.

on another happy note, longoria got rookie of the year, so yay for that, too.
(crap! ellsbury only got 26 points! oh well. 3rd is still pretty good.)

a shoutout to the baseball writers' association of america for doing a good job with picking out an awesome AL R.O.Y. and also to kinda get the lead out for the cy youngs. unless brandon webb wins, in which case i don't want to know :D

so... let's go evan! and lincecum!
(4:27PM EDIT: omg omg omg omg!!!! NL cy youngs are tomorrow can't wait that long!!!!!!! AL cy youngs and the other crap is next... but who cares! i really want it to be tomorrow!!!!)

i got bored this morning (well, right around lunchtime) and found another "i love this town" baseball spoof. this is kinda like the one ellie found a few weeks back, but this is with some of the actual players. great stuff right there, let me tell you.

more proof that i'm a nut

we were talking about the spanish-american war in us history, and they were talking about this spanish general weyler dude and my teacher had us guess as to what the newspapers nicknamed him and because he was in mexico and the caribbean (cuba), the first thing that came to my head for whatever reason was 'the mexicutioner', which is already taken by kc's closer, joakim soria. what made me think that, we'll never know, but hey, you already know that i mostly think in terms of baseball and little kid movies.

(and i love that clip because it's from the august 4th game with both alex's homerun and the collision. the soria part comes towards the end. right before the collision. :D)

Friday, November 7, 2008

yay pedroia got the gold glove! woo! and huzzah also for mauer and grady (AL gold glove list). and david wright, too (NL gold glove list).
i want to know when the cy youngs are handed out! cliff lee is practically unanimous, and i'm on the 'vote for timmy' boat :D.

let's go gold glove guys! and lincecum! :D

ooh! again

more free agent crap.
apparently there's a little bit of discussion about the sox sticking with varitek. sure, he didn't do so hot last season, but he's their best catcher and he's awesome anyway (and if he got traded, i'm sure my mom wouldn't be very happy 'cause he's her favorite). interestingly enough, posada is also a free agent, so it would be weird if the yankees and sox did catcher swapsies because that would totally screw up the sox/yankees hatred.

there was also a rumor here that the sox were also considering talking with the rangers on swapping one of our pitching prospects (like buchholz or some other dude) for one of their younger catchers, which includes saltalamacchia (as if we don't have enough catchers to begin with. but cash and ross are free agents, so...).
and there's another opportunity to consolidate my divided loyalty (just in case i didn't clarify, salty was the newest addition to my buddies list 'cause he is awesome and i love saying his last name :D)

my opinion: stick with varitek, trade out for salty!

(i love how barely anyone can pronounce that :D)

(info courtesy of that linked article, picture courtesy of a magazine i have)

(EDIT: and it's official now that timlin is a free agent. that makes 9 free agent sockies.)

in other news...

(sorry 'bout that slightly depressing post, i got it all sorted out and it's all good)

anyway, today's election day, blah blah blah, who cares.
here's the list of red sox free agents:
  • C Jason Varitek
  • 1B Sean Casey
  • SS Alex Cora
  • OF Mark Kotsay
  • RHP Paul Byrd
  • RHP Curt Schilling
  • C David Ross
  • RHP Bartolo Colon
  • possibly RHP Mike Timlin (he's the only eligible person left but hasn't made a decision)
  • (arbitration-eligible includes 1B Kevin Youkilis, RHP Jonathan Papelbon, C Kevin Cash, LHP Javier Lopez)
and for the royals:
  • 2B Mark Grudzielanek
  • (arbitration-eligible includes RHP Zack Greinke, LHP Jimmy Gobble, RHP Luke Hudson, OF Joey Gathright, C John Buck, OF/3B Mark Teahen, INF Jason Smith, RHP Brandon Duckworth, RHP Joel Peralta, RHP Brian Bannister, RHP Kyle Davies, INF/OF Esteban German, LHP John Bale (aka mr. door puncher :) )
catcher miguel olivo was a free agent, but the royals just signed him back on with a $2.7 million contract for 2009, and a 2010 option is up for discussion. he is expected to be their starting catcher for next year.
also in royals news (gosh, i sound like a news anchor), 1B mike jacobs was acquired from the marlins in return for LHP leo nuñez on jacobs' 28th birthday.

summary: none of my boys are free agents! i should be safe.

(thanks to yahoo! sports and mlb.com for the info. hence why there's a lot of capitalization.)

the soapbox

(yet another igoogle repeat-age)
my stomach hurts, i feel like crap and there's a good possibility that i'm on the verge of losing my best friend.

i want to go back to bed.

the day after *dun dun DUNNN!*

halloween sugar crash in process...

anyway, i decided to be alex for halloween (it's not like i had to buy anything special, i already had the jersey, hat, softball pants/socks...), and i stayed home to hand out candy while my family took my little sister trick-or-treating across the street. we got 4 people. 3 were in one family. i got weird looks from everyone (it must've been the eyeshadow/5 o'clock shadow smudged all over my chin), and the dad from the 3-kid family thought i was george brett! i guess i can't be too mad, seeing as he at least knew someone from the royals who happened to be a 3rd baseman and technically alex is s'posed to be brett's 2nd coming, but still! the name was on the back of my shirt! oh well.

here's a funny video my friend becky sent me a few days ago. (it won't let me upload it. whatever.)
and here's another random picture from the boston dirt dogs feed

Thursday, October 30, 2008

oh well

phillies won the world series. oh well. not much you can do about that. i'm kinda nonchalant about this partially 'cause none of my buddies were in the series so i don't really have a reason to care, and i have other things to hyperventilate about right now, like my thesis paper.

something to cheer anyone up:

just a quick post

you know, to give the illusion that i'm updating when i'm really not 'cause i have a lot of homework. but who really wants to do a campaign for the election of 1912 or redo a vinegar/baking soda lab report?

(ha, i didn't realize that i typed this at 4:44. ha ha 4 :D. and what a coincidence that this is the 3yr anniversary of me meeting the real #4 (long story, don't ask). wow. what a small world.)

Sunday, October 26, 2008

i think this might work to my advantage

as much as i was kinda surprised when i read the boston dirt dogs feed from a few days ago (how the sox were considering trading lowell), i started thinking and part of me remembered that before last season, alex had signed a 1-year contract with the royals. needless to say, i put two and two together and discovered that this has a very slight chance of working (at least in the world of mandachan where everything works out to my advantage. after all, 2 + 2 does equal 4 :D). of course, the royals need to be willing to give up alex, which i don't really see happening (he's one of their best players), but they wouldn't have a problem filling the spot (they have teahen and seven bajillion 1B-OF who could play position musical chairs). that would make my life as a divided loyalty fan a LOT easier, though.

just thinking out loud.

Saturday, October 25, 2008

another another real quick post

mr. big nose is pitching tonight!
just had to get that out there. nothing interesting since wednesday, sorry.

let's go... *ugh, fine* rays.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

world series game 1 tonight. still don't know who to root for. i guess i'll go for the rays 'cause they're in the american league. and because evan longoria is awesome (that really is the hot corner, isn't it?).

this is really boring now. oh well. let's go *gulp* rays.
(that really bums me out for having to say that, ya know.)

Monday, October 20, 2008

*punches pillow with fist*

(what i did this morning after hearing about the score)
darn those rays. darn matt garza, aka mr. big nose (there, david, that was my 'i hate matt garza' post). and finally, i'm ashamed to say darn the offense. it wasn't lester's fault, he gave up 3 runs over 7 innings, that's pretty darn good. ('course, it would've been awesome if he pulled a may 19th...) oh well, you win some, you lose some, you have bad days (been there before, let me tell you that). and now i don't know who to root for in the world series, 'cause i don't like the phillies and i don't like the rays, mostly for beating the red sox. now would be the time for spontaneous dugout combustion(jk). guess we'll just have to wait til spring training. or the season opener, which is against the rays (who's cruel idea was that?!?!). or july 9-12 or sept 21-24, when they play the royals.

on a lighter note, they had the yahoo players choice awards for outstanding pitcher today, and i'm happy 'cause lincecum got it for the NL (cliff lee got it for the AL, duh) and he's just totally awesome. (here's the video. he's so adorable.)

one last time for 2008: let's go red sox!
and royals!

Saturday, October 18, 2008

do or die

ok, i know that if the sox don't win at the trop tonight, the dugout won't just spontaneously combust, but losing tonight's game would mean bye-bye world series and all those people who bought furniture at jordan's would actually have to pay for their couches or tables or whatever. not to mentioned that homecoming night would be ruined for me, but that's a minor side note.

so as a final good luck, let's go red sox!

Friday, October 17, 2008

comeback kings of the century!

heck yeah!
ok, i admit, i stopped watching it after matsuzaka gave up those 2 homers in a row because they were down 5-zip and i'm like, 'oop, it's over. when's spring training?'
so when my mom was checking the weather this morning and she said 'the red sox won!', i was like 'WHAT?!?!', dropped everything and ran into the computer. yay for late-game rallies!

(picture courtesy of the boston dirt dogs feed on google reader)

lets go red sox! woo!

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

bullpen blowup much?

all i can say is that the rays better not win tomorrow night (it'd be even better if they didn't win saturday or sunday, either...) I know we've gotten out of the 3-1 hole before (cripes, we've gotten out of a 3-0 hole), but this ain't lookin' too good. (hence the reason why i wore my alex jersey on top of my ellsbury shirt for sports day today)
oh well. could be worse.

*scoffs* aww, i wish i lived closer to the big K (that being kauffman stadium), or at least was in the vicinity on sept. 20th for the 'shirts off their backs' hooflah (scroll down to the bottom) 'cause then i would've had a chance to meet alex and get an autographed jersey. i'm bummed. (although, game-fresh jersey, game-fresh dirt and sweat... but still! what might've been an opportunity to meet one of my buddies!)

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

lost 9-1. dang. here we go again. (which reminds me of that song by ok go which has another one of the awesomest music videos ever...)
although, as long as the rays don't win the next two, i'll have some form of entertainment while i'm selling drinks and crap at homecoming. they actually had the game on in the teachers' lounge last year, so i'd be in the gym, come out for a drink, check the score, go back in the gym, come out for a drink, check the score... you get the idea. (i think they won 13-1 that game against cleveland)

anyway... estoy happy 'cause i actually passed the mile for once (9:28, which isn't totally impressive, but i'm happy i passed). and i got taken down by a football player today in ultimate frisbee in gym, which really hurt but it was kinda funny. totally my fault.

(7:47pm- awww, psssht, i might as well not even watch tonight's game. ellsbury's not playing. and yikes lowell is out for the season and has to get hip surgery. good luck, lowell! we'll miss you!)

Monday, October 13, 2008

well, happy día de la raza, since my spanish classes have scarred me for life and made me realize that we're getting a day off in remembrance for some mass-murderer (columbus ended up killing off an entire tribe of west indies natives, either by physically killing them through slavery or killing them with diseases from europe)

on a lighter note, i was watching vh1 this morning and one of these really cool 'you oughta know' artists kinda struck me as... well, i can't really put an adjective to it, but he has the same last name as me so i was thinking wouldn't it be cool if he was my long-lost cousin or something. i wouldn't put it past that, since my dad's family is humonsterous and i've only met a handful of relatives.
(and the other thing was that he kinda looked like a younger version of jason bay, but that's aside the point. i might be related to someone famous!)

and this has nothing to do with anything i talked about, but you have to check out the music video for 'so what' by pink. it's hilarious and totally random and it's just awesome.

and this also has nothing to do with what i was talking about, but david sent me the link to this article. it's funny. and the comments are pretty great too.

Sunday, October 12, 2008

they lost, 9-8 in 11. and going by the boston dirt dogs google reader thing, ellsbury did absolutely nothing. i'll doublecheck that. (yup, 0-fer. oh well. i've been there before.)

oh well. game 3 on monday. garza vs. lester (garza has a funny mug, btw)

Saturday, October 11, 2008

yay sox won game 1, 2-zip! woo! matsuzaka had a no-hitter into the 7th and ended up only giving up 4 hits (and no runs, obviously). (bad things: ellsbury had an 0-fer and drew got hit by a pitch and was on the ground)

and that's it for my recap. game 2, coming up!

Friday, October 10, 2008

friday night baseball!

ALCS game 1, here we come! i'm pretty sure it's matsuzaka vs. shields.
woo! lets go sox!

and here's an interesting map i found:

just something to think about.

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

half day = half post

mostly 'cause nothing really noteworthy has happened since yesterday. except for the fact that i got attacked by a binder and now have a big scratch on my arm.

however, i highly suggest you check out the yahoo! sports picture gallery for the sox 'cause it is hilarious. and ellsbury's blog has some awesome stuff, as usual.

so have fun. will post again when anything interesting comes up.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

woo! ALCS!

this post is self-explanatory. and so is the picture. yay sox!

and now i am going to eat lunch 'cause i had to make up a drawing assignment at lunch and ran out of time and i am hungry.

(and by the way, it's casey and ellsbury, just in case you couldn't tell)

Monday, October 6, 2008

*shakes head*

shaking head for 2 reasons.
1. sox lost 5-4 in 12 last night. but i must admit, that 3-run single was AWESOME, even though i only heard it, not saw it.
2. david specifically went out of his way to google-image my buddies (which you know) and he decided to email me a very bad picture of alex from when he was in college. it must've been his yearbook picture or something 'cause he's in a suit and his hair's all slicked back. and his face is all broken out, so david must've thought it was good for getting me mad. it worked. but it made me laugh too.

that's it. game 4 (yay 4 :D) tonight, lester vs. lackey. and i have a us history essay due tomorrow grrr...

(4:31pm- for those of you who might be interested, here's the link to that terrible picture. since ellie wanted to see it, i'll put you all through the optional torture.)

Sunday, October 5, 2008

this isn't really important but it made my day.
i was at the mall and i was sitting in the food court when i saw a guy in the burger king line and he was wearing a royals shirt (i could tell 'cause of the 's', he was standing sideways) so i was all 'hee hee' and i wondered who was on the back until he turned his back to us and i was like 'OMG HE'S WEARING AN ALEX SHIRT!!!!' (it was from his rookie year, the #7)

so that made my day. along with seeing that lincecum lookalike at dairy queen again

:D :D :D :D

Saturday, October 4, 2008

two down, one to go

(and i know that was ellie's last comment :D)

yup, 7-5. drew and bay both had homeruns, ellsbury (and drew again) had doubles*, and papelbon out-awesomed k-rod. ALCS, here we come! woo!

meh. football game tonight for school. and i'm gonna freeze 'cause we have to wear our shortsleeved band polos AND IT GETS REALLY COLD IN THE STANDS!!!! aaugh!

*(here's ellsbury's double. and he's lookin' a little on the scruffy side, too. or maybe that's just me...)

Thursday, October 2, 2008

one down, two to go

(it's out of 5, right? yeah, i think so.)
so yeah, red sox won 4-1. lester went 7 innings with only 1 run, bay hit a 2-run homer off of lackey, and ellsbury went 3 for 5 with a double, a ribbie single, 2 stolen bases and a nice diving catch (darnit they didn't have it on a video clip).

(yeah, i know i said that i wouldn't go crazy with the postseason bloggery but i lied, ok? i have nothing better to do. and homework/studying isn't fun.)

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

another soxtober, baby!

yay the playoffs start tonight! and of course, the red sox (since i need to differentiate now that the white sox are in, too) are playing the angels. on the west coast. at 10-whatever pm west coast time. that sucks.

oh, and has anyone noticed that i got really lazy and haven't capitalized anything in, like, forever? not even names. i'm bad. cripes, half the time i don't even use complete sentences. or correct english, for that matter. oh well. who cares?

anyway, i believe that a let's go red sox is in order. even though it pretty much goes without saying.

yay! :D

(3:14pm- ok, this doesn't really have anything to do with the rest of the post, but i rocked again in softball, went 3 for 4. that's 7 for 10, you do the math, in the unit. 'course, it's kinda bad to think that i did better today in gym than all last season hitting-wise...)
(3:29pm- and i've decided that i hate elastics. when i have these stupid things in, i can't open my mouth enough to barely even drink out of a cup. or eat. or talk. and that's a problem.)

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

thanks a bunch, jake!

anyone who reads 'mr. met is my brother' now knows that ellsbury has a playoff blog. (the url is totally obvious, i'll leave it to you to find it on mlblogs). this will make my life a LOT easier in that i don't have to update every 5 seconds on the sox's playoff status. you rock, dude.

and i am surprised that it's the last day of september (already?!) and i have yet to hear 'wake me up when september ends' because i have heard that song every september 30th since the song came out. real creative, guys.

woo. orthodontist appt today. then i'm staying to help set up their google docs thing (my mom works there), and then i'm having a fabulous dinner at the golden arches, then i have piano lessons, and then i'm going to the batting cages until it's dark or i get tired or i run out of tokens. epic night of events.

oh, and for one last thing, you gotta check out the most recent part of the boston dirt dogs feed. it's really funny. (well, the whole thing is funny for the most part) (and i'm not sure if it'll come out, but if you have google reader, you'll find it in the sports section)

Monday, September 29, 2008

and that concludes our baseball broadcast

except not 'cause the sox are in the playoffs. yay sox!

anyway, for last-game recaps:
  • sox won 4-3 against the yankees. their record is 95 and 67. but that'll change, starting wednesday.
  • royals got shutout 6-zip by the twins. their record is 75 and 87, they finished 4th. and alex went 0 for 3 (david came up to me this morning and tried to ruin my morning with it), but he finished the season at .260, which is a whole lot better than i did. yay alex!
  • giants won i don't really care buuut lincecum got the win, he is 18 and 5. and he leads in strikeouts. yay lincecum!
  • and too bad the mets aren't in the playoffs. if the sox got booted, at least i could watch sny for baseball-related entertainment. but i'll say let's go mets anyway :)
(and i'm happy today 'cause i didn't rock quite as much as thursday in softball but i went 2 for 4 with a run and an rbi (2 different games). yay 4 for 6 on the 'season'!)

so i will leave at that and leave you with a nice picture :)

(see? i'm much better at finding pictures than david :D)

Sunday, September 28, 2008

i'm confused

(i thought it was s'posed to rain all weekend, not on-and-off. whatever.)

anyway, sox were rained out so they're doing a doubleheader today.

the royals beat the twins 4-2, alex went 1 for something but he almost had a grand slam (the shot just barely went foul, according to the recap) and he had 2 stolen bases which is huge 'cause he's not a base-stealing kinda guy. and speaking of alex, here's the grid pic i was working on over the summer. i got farther than the picture shows, but the addition kinda stinks so let's just leave it at this.

(sorry it's sideways, can't figure out how to turn it around. i thought it was pretty good otherwise. i'll scan in the original article when i get the chance.)

and yay lincecum is pitching today (and speaking of him, i went to the same dairy queen today but the lookalike wasn't there. bummer. :D)

Saturday, September 27, 2008

i am loved!

ok, so maybe not by the sox right now, and certainly not by the yankees in the *gag* buttkicking they gave the sox last night (not going to say the score because it is THAT bad.). although ellsbury did hit #9 (which i already said, but here's the clip)
at least the royals won (8-1) (and here's alex's ribbie double. and the beard still makes me laugh.).

anyway, i'm talking about this, one of the seven bajillion posts david did yesterday, which was almost entirely devoted to the baseball players i like. and then some random osu dude he likes. you HAVE to check it out just because it's so hilarious how david took some of the worst possible pictures of my buddies (the ellsbury one he stole from the birthday post) and made it look like the guys i like are the living reincarnation of frankenstein (dan haren's is probably the worst). although the alex one isn't bad.
(see, david? you DO love me! haha just kidding.)

Friday, September 26, 2008

another real quick post

sox losing 5-3 as of right now (to the *coughyankeescough*. bummer.). but ellsbury hit #9 so yay ellsbury.
royals winning 6-zip, alex had a ribbie double yay.

my shoulder still hurts.

Thursday, September 25, 2008

i feel awesome

(well, not my tweaked shoulder or the ankle, but whatever)

i'm happy 'cause i totally rocked in softball in gym today and i actually did better today than i did all last season 'cause i went 2 for 2 (i was happy 'cause the gym teachers didn't allow us to strike out) and i had a run. it was kinda scary the 2nd time up 'cause i hit it towards 3b/ss area and there was a person on 1st so i'm like 'oh no i just grounded into a double play' but the ball got bobbled and i just barely beat the tag at first (the other team was all like 'you're out' and my team was all like 'you're safe' and i was all like 'what am i?!?!?!' but the teacher called me safe). and then i eventually came around to score on another bobbleage all the way from first, and i just beat the tag there too. sliding still hurts.

red sox beat cleveland 5-4 (again) last night, ellsbury went 1 for 4. royals beat detroit 10-4, alex went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and a ribbie. (and if you look closely, you will see that omg he has a beard! ha! i've never seen him with even scruffyness, like i said yesterday, let alone anything noticeable! that's funny! ha!)

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

2 yays and a boo

yay #1: the red sox defeated cliff lee (yes, i'm serious) to clinch a spot in the playoffs. the clubhouse is now bathed in champagne.

('say hello to my little friend!' papelbon always seems to do something to make me laugh.)

yay #2: the royals shutouted the tigers 5-zip (yeah, i know 'shutouted' isn't a word), and alex hit #16, a 2-run shot (would it be anything else?)

(whoa, for a second there, he looked like pedroia. he's all scruffy. i've never seen him with scruffyness...)

and for the boo: lincecum lost to the rockies last night, only pitching 4 1/3 innings and giving up 6 runs on 6 hits. but he did set the giants' record for strikeouts, so that's good.

and for a shoutout for david: if you don't like that all i talk about is baseball, i got 2 things for ya. 1: it's baseball season. suck it up. and 2: i don't complain too much when all you talk about is rocketry and electronics crap. suck it up.
and thanks for listening to this minor rant, which has been brought to you by the letter U and the number 6.

(4:24pm- oh, and i have yet another injury to report: bruised ankle. i was at the batting cages yesterday and i was doing windmills with my bat to stretch out my shoulder except i wasn't controlling it very well and it came around and whacked me in the ankle so now it's all black and blue and it hurts when you poke it. this icepack has been very loved lately, i can tell you that much.)

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

wow. i'm a nut.

ok, so we have to write thesis papers in us history, and we can write on anything that's controversial as long as it happened in the us between 1850 and 1940. so what do i pick? the black sox scandal, because i am so awesome that i have to incorporate baseball into an otherwise totally boring subject (actually, it was david's idea).

sox lost but i found a really cool picture from last night's game. and the royals won 6-2. oh, now they're playing good. why couldn't've this blast of wins happen... oh, i don't know... while the royals were actually in contention to go to the playoffs?!?!?! i've said it once, i'll say it again, baseball never ceases to amaze me.
(speaking of the royals, i got picked on for my alex jersey today by numerous people, including 2 of my teachers. if only they understood how awesome he is...)

(3:12pm- uh oh. cliff lee is pitching tonight against wakefield. not good. come on sox! give cliff lee his... uh... 3rd loss! woo!)
(3:14pm- yay lincecum is pitching tonight against the rockies! come on lincecum!)
(7:10pm ...hey, the sox are on now... anyway, lincecum better have a good outing tonight 'cause webb is ahead of him in cy young points. but according to the poll, lincecum would win by a lot if fans chose the winner. just saying. and we all know that cliff lee has it made for the AL.)

tour guide mandachan: NYC edition

so yeah, that's why i haven't posted since whenever i last posted.

my friend becky took me to go see Chicago at the Ambassador, the show was AWESOME, our hotel was cool (we stayed at The Time, which was literally 20 steps away from the theater) except there was only one bed so i slept on the floor 'cause it was becky and elizabeth and me in one room and the floor isn't very comfortable, we ate at this really good indian restaurant (don't remember the name, but it was the oldest one in nyc, or at least that's what the sign said), and we walked around all sorts of places. i even passed the espn place (i stopped for about 10 minutes to watch the giant tv outside in times square. you know, gotta have your baseball fix :D), and the sny studio, but i couldn't take good pictures with my phone.

baseball update: red sox pretty much have control of the wild card yay.

and alex had a 2-run home run the other night and he had an awesome catch for a webgem last night :D. and it's really interesting 'cause hillman isn't sure who to start at 3rd for next season, teahen or alex. i vote alex! duh! it's called the hot corner for a reason! :D (and besides, the reporter guy screwed up. it's "I don't know's on third", not "Who's on third". Who is on first. What is on second. I don't know is on third. except he's not, 'cause alex is! GET IT RIGHT!)

and dan haren won on sunday :D.

yeah, nothing exciting to report on.
red sox are now 2 games behind (lost 10-3 last night) and they don't have a game today.
royals won 5-2 last night (they were playing the mariners but alex wasn't playing so i don't really care), are currently winning 4-zip 'cause alex scored from second on a dejesus single and aviles hit a 3-run shot to left.
lincecum is pitching tonight against the d-backs. woo! (i guess that's exciting...?)
and i had two tests today that weren't really that hard, just long. and i want another cookie.

so seeing as the royals are on now, i will proceed in doing the every-few-minute-update lame-o thing that i did the other night :)
(3:17pm- bottom of the 4th: alex got walked. that's the second time today. royals still up 4-zip. i still hate his mug.)
(3:21pm- bottom of the 4th: yay alex scored from second on a maier single along with teahen. royals up 6-zip.)
(3:26pm- guess what inning it is: royals winning 7-zip. callaspo scored and maier to second on a wild pitch.)
(3:34pm- the mariners are really sucking this inning, huh?: 8-zip. maier home on a shealy single.)
(3:36pm- !!!!!: 9-zip. aviles home on a teahen single.)
(3:37pm- my goodness, that was a long inning.
jesus christmas. my boyfriend almost came up twice! he'll be up next, though :D)
(3:45pm- bottom of the 5th: d'aww, alex flew out to center. 0 for 1. royals still up 9-zip.)
(3:50pm- bottom of the 5th: 10-zip. maier home from second on a gathright single.)
(4:11pm- bottom of the 6th: 12-zip YAY alex hit a 2-run double! (olivo and ka'aihue scored) woo! :D)
(4:25pm- k, no more game recaps for now. need to eat dinner (band practice). royals still 12-zip in the bottom of the 7th.)

what a beauty!

it's a half day, so that's why i'm here so early, but here is a clip of alex's awesome diving play in last night's game (they won, don't know score)

sox lost but whatever.

...and we have another birthday to celebrate! happy 28, dan haren! and happy whatevers on your complete game shutout against the giants!

(sorry for the lack of pictures. he's a very hard person to get a decent picture of. and the last two were from yesterday's game)

red sox won 13-5. and almost all of the runs were scored on homers. cripes, there were 6 of them (bay, ortiz, youk, lowell, varitek, ellsbury who went 2 for 5 :D). yay tied for 1st!

and the royals won 3-zip against the mariners. alex went 1 for 3 and he almost scored but got thrown out at home and espn called him 'slow-running'! come on! give the guy some slack! he just came off the DL with a hip flexor tear! of course he's gonna be slow! (i mean, it's not like he's ellsbury or anything :) ). jerks.

yay dan haren pitches against the giants tonight (no, he is not facing lincecum. i checked. although that sure would be an interesting game...)

i gotta agree with this guy!

i know that until last year, i wasn't into baseball and i didn't even know what a cy young was until this season, but now that it's been brought up, i just had to point this out. lincecum has my vote. not that it counts or anything. just saying.
(he is leading in points right now, btw)
(sorry, ellie, mikey p is awesome and everything, buuut...)

(8:32pm- baseball update: red sox winning 7-1 in the 4th with no outs still! woo! and alex is coming up this inning (the 2nd), and he's so darn cute but i really do hate his mlb mug shot. he seriously looks like he's on something.)
(8:35pm- another update:
now the red sox are leading 8-1 in the 4th with no one out. and alex struck out aww. i still hate his mug shot. but he's still adorable.)
(8:38pm- another another update: 9-1, 1 out, still in the 4th.)
(8:39pm- another x3 update: 11-1. youk hit the 5th sox homer of the night. dangit guys it's nice that you're being awesome but i can't keep up with it! aaugh! betcha the rays fans don't like the rays right about now.)
(8:57pm- guess what this is. ellsbury hit a homerun and i missed it! dangit! oh well. yay for #8! and #6 for tonight for the sox, who are leading 12-1 in the 5th)
(9:05pm- alex flew out. that's 0 for 2 tonight. bummer. oh well.
k! i promise this is the last one! i'm going to... i don't know, go to bed or watch the sox game or something! i'm leaving! i'm getting sick of updating! aaugh!)

current status, again:

alex playing and going 2 for 5 with a double and a nice diving play in the royals' 13-3 (whoops) win over cleveland = very happy mandachan! :D
(that was a long sentence equation thing...)
i'm glad to see him playing again.

and the sox won too so that's always great. only 1 game behind! woo!

and this is kinda late news but lincecum pitched a complete game shutout against the padres! yay lincecum!

(3:31pm- ooh! i had a really bad blond moment today in us history! we had to swap seats for a project, so someone else was sitting in my seat and my binder was still under it and it has a picture of alex from an article in espn so i wasn't thinking and thought 'hey! someone else has a picture of alex on their binder!' and then i realized it was mine. wow.)

current status:

alex not starting tonight = not happy mandachan >:|

and now for another yay-boo segment

yay alex is off the DL! except hillman might not want him to start in the rain just in case he screws up his leg again slipping in the mud. 'cause that would stink.
(4:02pm- hillman didn't have alex start in the first game, but he's probably saving alex for tonight so the team can have at least some strength. or at least that's what i'd like to think. it was probably 'cause it won't rain later...)

and about yesterday's sox game, i lied about the pitching matchup. it was actually wakefield against purcey (who apparently has a size 18 shoe. that is a massive shoe.), and the sox blanked the jays 7-zip. yay sox!
but apparently ellsbury did something to his quad and has been 'day-to-day' since the 10th (and he didn't play on his birthday, but that was partially 'cause there was no game...). if he goes on the DL, i will not be a happy camper! get well soon ellsbury!

(3:43pm- omg i saw a totally hilarious birthday card in the grocery store today, and too bad that it's past my birthday 'cause otherwise i would've bought it for myself. it was that awesome.
outside: I bet the Angels were really smiling the day you were born.
inside: They came back to beat Detroit 10-9, 2 outs in the 9th, with a walk-off grand slam.
great, huh?)
(3:46pm- ooh, and lincecum is pitching against the padres today. go lincecum! AAMOF, he's tied for 1st in the nl for strikeouts, is 2nd in ERA and i'm pretty sure he has the best record in the nl. or at least that's what it said in the paper this morning.)
the sox lost the first game of the doubleheader, 8-1, but george kottaras scored the run in his major league debut. yay kottaras!)
(4:01pm- this rain has really screwed up the schedule, huh? almost everyone has a doubleheader today. weird.)

*happy happy joy joy dance!*

alex is officially off the 15-day DL! (even though it was 22 days, and some of the longest 22 days ever :D)

i can't wait!

tonight kicks off the royals/indians series, and you all know what that means! it'll be good to see alex back in the lineup again to give the royals a little boost (everyone knows they need it), and now i'll actually have a reason to check the box score! (although, they are facing cliff lee, so the chances of them winning are a little slimmer...)
(EDIT: the return won't be tonight. tomorrow night at the earliest. aah, close enough. he's returning and that's all i care about.)

and the red sox are facing the bluejays again (uh oh halladay is pitching. good luck guys!)

Thursday, September 11, 2008

ok, i know it's 9/11 and all and this should be a solemn post and yadda yadda yadda but someone has a birthday we should celebrate!

happy 25, ellsbury! :)

yay! (and i purposely left out the cut eye/contact problem picture 'cause it wasn't very nice)

(which is exactly what i said when i saw this)
come on alex! you're almost there! the royals need you! (no, seriously, the royals NEED you)

and we're ('we' as in the red sox) back to 1.5 games behind, but we've been farther back, so i'm not really concerned unless they start to REALLY suck.

(sometime mid-afternoon: and yay dan haren is pitching :D. i wonder what would've happened if he was pitching against lincecum the other night. that would've been interesting. i wouldn't know who to root for, kinda like whenever alex flew out to ellsbury or ellsbury grounded out to alex.)
(8:09pm: aw, the d-backs lost. oh well. but dan haren didn't get the loss, so that's good. and it was 4-3, so that's not bad. and i don't really like either team, i just like one pitcher from each, so i really shouldn't care...)
(9:08pm: hey! i know that the defenders are the giants' AA and that chances are that i'll see people i know, but a lot of people in tonight's game were either on the defenders' roster at one point or i actually saw play. i saw ryan rohlinger, sandoval, and ishikawa play at one point, and i remember seeing sergio romo and omar vizquel on the roster they gave us before the game. neat.)

ha! that's funny!

well, this might not be for diehard fans, but for someone who's not a huge football fan, this brings up a good point. and it's not nice but it made me laugh.
